Modeling the spectrum of gravitational waves in the primordial Universe

چکیده
Recent observations from type Ia Supernovae and from cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropies have revealed that most of the matter of the Universe interacts in a repulsive manner, composing the socalled dark energy constituent of the Universe. The analysis of cosmic gravitational waves (GW) represents, besides the CMB temperature and polarization anisotropies, an additional approach in the determination of parameters that may constrain the dark energy models and their consistence. In recent work, a generalized Chaplygin gas model was considered in a flat universe and the corresponding spectrum of gravitational waves was obtained. The present work adds a massless gas component to that model and the new spectrum is compared to the previous one. The Chaplygin gas is also used to simulate a Λ-CDM model by means of a particular combination of parameters so that the Chaplygin gas and the Λ-CDM models can be easily distinguished in the theoretical scenarios here established. The lack of direct observational data is partialy solved when the signature of the GW on the CMB spectra is determined.

Gravitational waves are considered in thermal vacuum state. The amplitude and spectral energy density of gravitational waves are found enhanced in thermal vacuum state compared to its zero temperature counterpart. Therefore, the allowed amount of enhancement depends on the upper bound of WMAP-5 and WMAP-7 for the amplitude and spectral energy density of gravitational waves. The enhancement of ...
متن کاملLimits on direct detection of gravitational waves.
We compute energy density and strain induced by a primordial spectrum of gravitational waves on terrestrialand space-based detectors (e.g., LIGO) as constrained by the COBE detection of microwave background anisotropy. For the case where the spectrum is created during in ation, we nd new, stricter upper bounds on the induced strain, making detection unlikely. However, detectors might be useful ...
متن کاملGravitational Wave Spectrum Induced by Primordial Scalar Perturbations
We derive the complete spectrum of gravitational waves induced by primordial scalar perturbations ranging over all observable wavelengths. This scalar-induced contribution can be computed directly from the observed scalar perturbations and general relativity and is, in this sense, independent of the cosmological model for generating the perturbations. The spectrum is scale-invariant on small sc...
متن کاملDetectability of the primordial origin of the gravitational wave background in the Universe
The appearance of peaks in the Fourier power spectra of various primordial fluctuations is a generic prediction of the inflationary scenario. We investigate whether future experiments, in particular the satellite experiment PLANCK, will be able to detect the possible appearance of these peaks in the Bmode polarization multipole power spectrum. This would yield a conclusive proof of the presence...
